A Soon-to-be Mom’s Perspective (Kristy Ruiz) - Episode 12 STREAMING
A Soon-to-be Mom’s Perspective (Kristy Ruiz) - Episode 12
This week my scheduled guest ended up not being able to record so rather than doing another solo episode or going another week without an episode, I decided that it would be I nice idea to have a conversation with my wife to share with you all. Listen in to her thoughts on:
- What makes a good dad based on her relationship with her dad
- How keeping simple secrets between you and your children can make them feel special
- Ways dad can help a new mom and survive the first few months of having a new baby
- Conflict resolution in marriage and how that might translate to conflicts with your children
- Worming babies…WHAT!?
- A dream to be a member of an elite club of super women.
- Calling Francisco out on being insensitve
Of course this week I am thankful for my wife stepping in to record a fun episode for all you fin listeners.
DVP has an improved setup now, featuring two dynamic mics with home made pop filters, and a Mackie 402-vlz3 mixer!
Life, Pregnancy, and Other Solo Updates - Episode 11 STREAMING
Life, Pregnancy, and Other Solo Updates - Episode 11
This week I bring you a much more organized episode than my last solo effort ;). The topics I go over this week are:
- Work promotion causing a lot of friction at home
- We are at 33 weeks so our daughter is the size of a Honeydew Melon and she is measuring perfectly and seems to be facing head down now.
- I am also proud of my wife because she has been taking care of herself physically and diet-wise - she didn’t get gestational diabetes and has only put on 18 lbs
- We spent alot of this past weekend setting up more of the nursery
- Got my first Valentine from our daughter…sort of :)
- Have been reading a bit more of the Bradley method
though at my current pace it is not looking like i will finish by early April so I have to pick up the pace.
- The Grey was awesome - a definite man’s movie, but needed way fewer F bombs (Oh and I said this was a Leslee Neilson movie, but I of course meant Liam Neeson, sorry for the tongue slip ;))
- Dolphin Tale
was sweet but made me want to see Soul Surfer
again and felt like the latter was better in terms of overcoming adversity
- Looking for a Spiritual Growth book to read so if you have a recommendation send it into dadsvoicepodcast@gmail.com
- Recommend a blog post to dad’s called “You just broke your Child. Congratulations” by Dan Pearce of the danoah.com blog. His post totally spoke to me as a upcoming dad who, as you all know, wants to speak life into my daughter’s life.
- Christmas came in February this year and Santa brought a shiny Mackie Mixer
- Next week going to be interviewing another Dad and very much looking forward to it with my new set up though there might be some kinks to work out.
This week I am thankful for all the support and encouragement I have gotten in the past few weeks for doing this podcast.
Custom Car Dad (Jeremy Norman) - Episode 10 STREAMING
Custom Car Dad (Jeremy Norman) - Episode 10
This weeks episode of DVP I had the opportunity to talk with Jeremy Norman, a father of two young daughters, and married to his wife for seven years. During our fun conversation we talk about his passion for hot rods, learning how to parent girls as a dad, and more specifically:
- Using your passion to protect your children from their toys
- Learning that nothing can be left out that you don’t want your children to get at when they are first growing up - especially when they have an older sibling to learn from
- Feeling quite unqualified to be a dad and the weight of realizing this new person you were given; having the responsibility of their spiritual upbringing God has entrusted you with
- Having to work to point your children toward God, being a fallen man.
- Wishing our children saw less of our flaws but since they do, getting to see the graciousness of children when we say we admit we are wrong (at least when they are young ;))
- Since we as dads aren’t girls, reading books about how to raise girls is invaluable, especially to learn how they process their world differently. One book in particular to read is “Girls!
” by William and Kathryn Beausay.
- Asking your daughters abstract questions, or helping them think of crazy things to broaden their creative thinking, to set the ground work for practical thinking.
- Looking forward to sharing a passion, for example working on cars, with your children - not wanting to force it down their throats, but being hopeful that they will want to share it with you.
- Always telling your daughter they are beautiful to speak life into them.
- As a father it takes time to connect with your children in the first year of their life, but after that it becomes easier.
- A reminder to make dates with your wife intentional otherwise it won’t happen. And spending money on a child-sitter may not be putting money in a savings account, but it is an investment in your relationship, so it is worth it.
- Baby tip - swaddling blankets are awesome!
- If you don’t know, be warned that if you think you are a patient person having children will very likely test this, so don’t be surprised to wish for more patience.
- The unexpected joy of hearing other people’s compliments about your children, especially since as a parent you typically see all the bad that can overshadow the good.
- Making a tradition of spending intentional 1 on 1 time with your children, and for daughters specifically, being an example to them as the type of man you want them to eventually date and marry.
- Having a deep desire to pass on being a passionate Christ follower to your children, that they may pass it on to their children.
This week I am thankful for being blessed with completing my 10th episode and though I didn’t have it by this episode I have now saved enough for my Mackie Mixer!
